Nigerian boxer, Azeez Osoba, knocked out his opponent Carl Hield from the Bahamas in the round of 32 bout of their 71kg (light-middleweight) division at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Saturday, The PUNCH reports.
It took the Lagos-born pugilist two minutes and 54 seconds to send Hield to the canvass at the NEC Hall 4.
The 26-year-old, who told The PUNCH prior to his first bout that he would not relent until he won a medal at the Games, will next face Welshman Garan Croft, who drew by in the round of 16, on Tuesday.
Croft, an amateur boxer, won a silver medal at the 2022 European Championships.
However, Osoba’s countrywoman, Bolanle Shogbamu, lost 4-1 to England’s Jodie Wilkinson in the 70kg (light-middleweight) division.
Shogbamu lost the first two rounds 29-26, 28-27 before winning the third 28-27.
Wilkinson sealed her place in the quarter-final scheduled for Wednesday by winning the remaining two bouts 28-27, 28-27.
She faces Eireann Nugent in the quarter-finals.
