The winner of the $1.28 billion prize can choose between cash or annual payment.
Cash option: The cash option is the fastest to obtain the prize. However, the winner will take $747.2 million instead of the full prize.
Annual payment: According to several calculations, to pay a billion-dollar prize will take 29 years.
And that is the time frame that Mega Millions ask for depositing the full prize into your account.
If the winner decides to take the annual payment, the first deposit will start immediately, and continue every month for 29 years.
