Danny Garcia defeated Jose Benavidez by majority decision in a 12 round super welterweight fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Garcia looked much better in the first round, threw longer combinations and looked faster. Benavidez had his guard tight, he was waiting for the moment when he could throw his punches.
Benavidez looked bigger physically, he didn’t throw many punches, he wanted to land one that would put Garcia to sleep, but it was difficult, he couldn’t find the distance.
In the third round Benavidez managed to land a good right hand, but Garcia absorbed it well, then with a straight right hand he moved all danger away from his humanity.
The two fighters were in the center of the ring, Garcia was moving much more, throwing his combinations to the body and to the face, Benavidez was very static, he did not hit so much, he waited for his opponent to stand up and then he would throw his combinations.
Garcia taunted Benavidez in the fifth round, he raised both hands smiled, offered his face to his opponent, who took the bait and began to chase him around the ring. Danny was much better, threw fast combinations and almost always connected.
In the seventh round Garcia managed to connect with a hook to the liver and finished him off with a straight right to the face. Benavidez did not move, he looked tired, he wanted to finish the fight with one punch.
In the ninth round, Benavidez was finally able to pierce Garcia’s defense, he connected him two tremendous right hands, Danny shook off the blows, but did not respond to the offense.

Garcia came into the twelfth round and knew the fight was his. Garcia challenged Benavidez to exchange punches, but then came out for legs, showed him his tongue, opened his arms and threw the jab. Benavidez wanted to, but couldn’t, he lacked quality.
