Amanda Nunes defeated Julianna Pena by unanimous decision at UFC 277 to regain the featherweight title in Dallas, Texas.
Amanda Nunes came out cautious in the first round, but not afraid, the Brazilian managed to connect a right hand that staggered Pena, but the Venezuelan reacted and released good kicks. The last ten seconds surprised the fighters in an intense exchange of shrapnel.
The second round was a nightmare for Pena, Nunes hit her with three punches and three times sent her to the canvas. The champion stood up, and like a wounded beast she went all out on the challenger, she threw good combinations, but the Brazilian had taken the round easily.
The Brazilian dominated the fight, to the ground where Pena wanted to take her, the Brazilian responded and took the best part. Nunes and Pena went to the ground, Pena tried to apply an armbar, but the Brazilian managed to defend very well.
Nunes and Pena gave us a historic fourth round. Pena tried three times to apply the armbar, but the Brazilian defended like a warrior and the same three times managed to escape. The champion showed courage and a huge heart, despite having two cuts on her forehead, she never went backwards.
In the fifth round the emotions did not drop, Nunes and Pena gave themselves to the public. The Brazilian took the Venezuelan to the ground, who tried for the umpteenth time to submit the challenger, but the defense of the Carioca was superior.
The lead of the round changed hands, Pena dominated and then Nunes, both delivered impressively. The champion ended up bathed in blood, but took the respect of everyone.
After five rounds the fight came to an end and the judges saw Amanda Nunes win (50-45, 50-44, 50-43) who regained the UFC featherweight title.
