LA Galaxy are interested in making a move for young Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig, as the Spaniard is on the market this summer after failing to hold down a regular spot in Xavi Hernandez‘s team.
The 22-year-old only made 18 appearances last season across all competitions for the Catalan side and the majority of those came from the bench.
Xavi does not see him as part of the sporting project and it is certainly no secret that Barcelona are trying to offload as many players as they can to make space for their new signings.
While there are a few possible landing spots, MLS could be his next destination, according to Mundo Deportivo, which would certainly be a transfer from left-field.
There has been interest from Premier League outfit Fulham and Serie A side Fiorentina but no formal offers have been made for the La Masia graduate.
LA Galaxy are now hoping that the Spanish-speaking Chicharito Hernandez could help influence a move for Puig, although that is unlikely to be the clincher.
LA Galaxy’s deadline for signing Riqui Puig
The MLS side will need to act fast if they are to make a move for Puig work, since the transfer window for them will slam shut on August 4.
They have had a pretty inconsistent season so far and they sit eighth in the Western Conference with 30 points. Last weekend, they lost 1-0 to FC Dallas for their 10th loss of the campaign.
