Japan’s Daichi Abe, during a bout at the Rizin 37 event, pulled off an unsportsmanlike act that is the talk of the MMA world.
He was facing Marcos Yoshio de Souza at Japan’s Saitama Super Arena and, in the second round of the 176-pound bout, the 30-year-old Abe landed a perfect right hand that knocked De Souza out cold.
The negative note is that Abe still went after his opponent, already down on the ground, and aimed a football punt at his face, without the referee being able to get there in time to stop it.
Kicking with the opponent already down, as well as headbutting, hair grabbing, manipulating small joints, biting… are forbidden actions in MMA.
The fighter in the action previously came through the UFC and left the company in 2018 with a 1-3 record. His record currently stands at 11-5.
