A housewife, Mrs Tosin Olayinka, and her child have been abducted by gunmen at Otaefun community, Osogbo, Osun State.

The victims were said to be returning from a shop when they were abducted around 6pm on Tuesday.

A statement by Mayowa Fagbohungbe, the Public Relations Officer of the Union Baptist Church, Osogbo, where the victims used to worship, confirmed the incident.

The church said the perpetrators of the crime had contacted the family and demanded N5m ransom.

The statement read, “The Senior Pastor of Union Baptist Church Odi-Olowo Osogbo, Rev. Dr Sunday Adediwura Adeoye, wishes to announce that a committed member of the church of God, Mrs Olayinka Tosin Kayode, and her child were kidnapped by unknown gunmen around 6pm on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, around Otaefun/Kobongboe while returning home from her shop around the same axis.

“Engr. Kayode Abayomi, the husband, has since been reached by the kidnappers who are requesting that N5m ransom be transferred to them through the account of his wife in their custody.

“We solicit the continued prayers and support of all and sundry while we believe in God Almighty that Mrs Olayinka Tosin Kayode and her child will regain their freedom and be reunited with their family and the church of God soon.”

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Yemisi Opalola, said efforts were on to rescue the victims.

She said, “We are seriously on recovering both mother and child. We will reunite them with their family.”
